New Year’s resolutions are made every year by almost 45% of Americans in comparison to 38% who claim that they absolutely never make any promises. Among top ten most common pledges are: to lose weight (38%), get organized, spend less/ save more (34%), stay fit and healthy, learn something exciting, quit smoking or have more time for a family (31%). It means that almost 40% of adult Americans are not satisfied with their body size and more than one third of American population is concerned with money matters or relationship related issues.
Statistics indicate that three fourth of American respondents are willing to maintain their New Year’s resolutions through the first week of the new year, but only 46% are able to keep them for as long as six months. Surprisingly, only 8 percent of people become successful in achieving their goals in the end.
There are, however, effective ways to make things work. According to experts, it is possible to succeed if you follow certain guidelines. The key to victory lies in careful planning, perseverance and determination. The first tip says that you should have realistic expectations – just do not exaggerate with numbers, the quality matters here. The second one stresses the simplicity of your task – keep it as simple as possible. The third tip advocates tangibility of your aims – make your resolutions rational and measurable. The fourth one recommends sharing your goals with others and making them obvious – a short to-do list on your Facebook account will do to seek understanding and your friends’ support. Finally, believe that you can do it – stay optimistic, be determined and strong-willed. Never give up, because it is entirely up to you to reach the summit of your personal Mount Everest this year.
